There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Fukushima (3-10) defeated on the road 8th ranked Tokyo Cinq R. (3-10) 74-59 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 26-10 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Fukushima forced 22 Tokyo Cinq R. turnovers. Strangely Tokyo Cinq R. outrebounded Fukushima 45-32 including 32 on the defensive glass. Tokyo Cinq R. was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The game was also dominated by American players. Guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) stepped up and scored 24 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals for the winners and forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side center Will Foster (226-88, college: Gonzaga) responded with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 24 rebounds and swingman Jemal Farmer (195-89, college: Arkansas, agency: Blacktop Management) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Tokyo Cinq R.'s coach Motofumi Aoki tested ten players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Fukushima moved-up to ninth place, which they share with defeated Tokyo Cinq R. Tokyo Cinq R. lost their eighth game in a row. Fukushima will have a break next round.
