Regular Season Round 5: Adelaide - Sydney UF 59-78

WNBL top team - Sydney Uni Flames (5-1) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Adelaide Lightning (2-4) 78-59. The game was mostly controlled by Sydney Uni Flames. Adelaide Lightning was better in second period 28-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sydney Uni Flames dominated on the defensive end, holding Adelaide Lightning to just 7 points in first quarter. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Guard Katie-Rae Ebzery (177-90) stepped up and scored 16 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and international point guard Leilani Mitchell (165-85, college: Utah, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 9 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Sydney Uni Flames' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International center Laura Hodges (191-83) responded with 15 points and naturalized British center Alex Bunton (198-93, college: Wichita St.) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Sydney Uni Flames have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-1 record. Adelaide Lightning at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Sydney Uni Flames will play against West Coast Waves (#4) in Perth in the next round. Adelaide Lightning will play on the road against Bulleen Boomers in Melbourne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
