Regular Season Round 7: Opentach Pla - Zornotza 63-68

Bottom-ranked Opentach Pla (0-6) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to fifth ranked Zornotza (5-1) 68-63 on Sunday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Opentach Pla won third quarter 25-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Zornotza won last quarter 18-14. They also forced 19 Opentach Pla turnovers. Strangely Opentach Pla outrebounded Zornotza 43-27 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Swingman Ander Garcia (194-89) fired 13 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Forward Ibon Carreto (198-84) chipped in 9 points and 5 assists. American forward Ridge McKeither (198-88, college: Angelo St.) produced 22 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Juan Riera (188-79) added 15 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Opentach Pla's coach Toni Martorell tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Zornotza. They maintain fifth place with 5-1 record. Opentach Pla lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with six games lost. Zornotza will meet at home CB Tarragona 2017 (#9) in the next round. Opentach Pla will play against Fuenlabrada (#7) in Madrid and hopes to get finally their first victory.
