Regular Season Round 7: Ironi Nahariya - Maccabi Rishon 65-76

Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Ironi Nahariya (1-6) was defeated at home by third ranked Maccabi Rishon (6-1) 76-65 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi Rishon. Ironi Nahariya was better in third quarter 16-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import power forward Jackie Carmichael (206-90, college: Illinois St., agency: Priority Sports) helped adding 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. At the losing side American John Williamson (200-86, college: Cincinnati, agency: KMG Sports Management) responded with 17 points and 8 rebounds and point guard Eyal Shulman (192-87) scored 21 points. Ironi Nahariya's coach Roy Hagai rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Maccabi Rishon have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place. Newly promoted Ironi Nahariya keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. Maccabi Rishon will face league's leader Hapoel Jerusalem at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ironi Nahariya will play against Ironi Nes-Ziona (#4) in Nes Ziyona and hope to win that game.
