Regular Season Round 5: Denso Iris - Hitachi Cougars 89-47

Undefeated leader Denso Iris delivered the fifth consecutive win on Sunday night. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Hitachi Cougars (0-5) 89-47 in Kariya. The game without a history. Denso Iris led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Cougars to just 7 points in second quarter. Denso Iris dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 28 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Denso Iris forced 22 Hitachi Cougars turnovers and outrebounded them 36-25 including a 28-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was international guard Minami Iju (168-90) who scored 18 points (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). The former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Four Denso Iris players scored in double figures. Denso Iris' coach felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Kasumi Takahashi (167-87) produced 16 points and 7 rebounds and Aiko Ishihara (178-92) added 13 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Denso Iris (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Hitachi Cougars at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Haneda Vickies. Denso Iris are looking forward to face Mitsubishi K. (#7) in Nagoya in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Hitachi Cougars will play at home against JX-Eneos S. (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.
