Regular Season Round 7: Hapoel Holon - Maccabi Haifa 89-81 OT

Maccabi Haifa (#6) forced the game against Hapoel Holon (#5) into an overtime, but lost by eight points 81-89 on Monday night. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 26-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 18-10. Hapoel Holon made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Hapoel Holon outrebounded Maccabi Haifa 41-28 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Shlomi Harush (185-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. American Dominic McGuire (206-85, college: Fresno St.) helped adding 18 points and 7 rebounds. Hapoel Holon's coach Elad Hasin used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American point guard Demontez Stitt (187-89, college: Clemson) responded with 17 points and 5 assists and American-Nigerian Ike Ofoegbu (205-84, college: SMU) scored 18 points. Five Hapoel Holon and four Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Hapoel Holon maintains fifth place with 4-3 record. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the sixth position with four games lost. Hapoel Holon will face Hapoel Eilat (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Haifa will play against Maccabi T-A (#3) and hope to win that game.
