Regular Season Round 5: Maccabi R.Hen - H.R. Le-Zion 83-76

The biggest surprise took place in Ramat Hen where host Maccabi Ramat Hen (3-2) beat league's leader Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion (4-1) 83-76 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion. The hosts trailed by 14 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 7 points. Maccabi Ramat Hen forced 22 Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was forward Kayla Thornton (185-92, college: UTEP) who had a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Rebekah Gardner (185-90, college: UCLA) chipped in 28 points. Guard Nadirah McKenith (170-91, college: St.John's) produced 20 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Karisma Penn (188-91, college: Illinois) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion players scored in double figures. Maccabi Ramat Hen moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Elitzur Ramla. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion at the other side dropped to the second position with one game lost. They share it with Bnot Hertzeliya. They were replaced at the leadership position by Maccabi Ashdod. Hapoel Rishon Le-Zion will play next round against ASA Jerusalem trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Maccabi Ramat Hen will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Bnot Hertzeliya on the road.
