Regular Season Round 5: Uberlandia - Macae 81-80
Date: November 18, 2014
Unitri's fans can celebrate the first win of their team after two consecutive loses. They used home court advantage to defeat Macae (0-4) 81-80. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-15. But Macae won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American point guard Caleb Brown (183-89, college: Austin Peay St.) who scored 18 points. His fellow American import forward O'Neal Mims (208-83, college: Angelo St.) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. American point guard Jamaal Smith (175-85, college: N.Mexico) produced 28 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots) and forward Fernando Alvim (201-80) added 18 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Five Unitri and four Macae players scored in double figures. Macae's coach Leonardo Costa tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Unitri (1-2) left bottom position moving up to twelfth place, which they share with Brasilia. It was Macae's fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Unitri's next round opponent will be higher ranked Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Macae will play on the road against Minas in Belo Horizonte and hopes to get finally their first victory.
