Regular Season Round 8: Shanxi Zh. - DongGuan L. 107-104

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (5-3) edged higher ranked DongGuan Leopards (5-3) in Taiyuan 107-104 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 56-52 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Shanxi Zhongyu made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. DongGuan Leopards were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). The other American import forward Jeremy Tyler (208-91, college: Louisville) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Nigerian-American power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-83, college: Arizona St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 10 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and the former international center Kai Zhang (212-82) added 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for DongGuan Leopards. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Shanxi Zhongyu moved-up to sixth place, which they share with DongGuan L. Shanxi Zhongyu will face higher ranked Guandong Tigers (#3) in Dongguan in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
