Regular Season Round 8: Shanxi - Henan 79-61

No shocking result in a game in Taiyuan where first ranked Shanxi Rui Flame (7-1) defeated 11th ranked Henan (1-7) 79-61 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Shanxi Rui Flame. Henan was better in fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Shanxi Rui Flame dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Henan's 34. Shanxi Rui Flame forced 21 Henan turnovers. The best player for the winners was power forward Jun Shan Zhou (190-89) who scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. International center Wei Wei (206-89) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Shanxi Rui Flame players scored in double figures. American forward Tianna Hawkins (191-91, college: Maryland) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and swingman Jie Sun (183-91) added 12 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-1 record, which they share with Beijing and Shanghai. Newly promoted Henan dropped to the tenth place with seven games lost. Shanxi Rui Flame will face Liaoning Hengye (#8) in Anshan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Henan will play at home against Beijing Great Wall and hope to win that game.
