Very predictable result when eighth ranked Mogi (3-2) defeated on the road 15th ranked Rio Claro (1-5) 82-77 on Friday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-18. But Rio Claro won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mogi made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Mogi outrebounded Rio Claro 32-20 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Mogi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. Naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF, agency: Interperformances) scored 33 points (!!!) to lead the charge for the winners and forward Gerson Santo (206-91, college: Colorado St.) chipped in 9 points and 12 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Eduardo Machado (193-82) with 17 points and 4 assists and the former international center Lucas Tischer (208-83) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Five Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mogi moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Rio Claro keeps the fifteenth position with five games lost. Mogi will face SKY/Basquete (#14) in Aldeota in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Rio Claro will play at home against Paschoalotto/Bauru and hope to win that game.
