There was no surprise in Riga where 6th ranked Jekabpils II (3-6) was crushed by third ranked VEF skola (7-3) 92-58 on Saturday. The game without a history. VEF skola led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Jekabpils II's 28. They outrebounded Jekabpils II 41-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. VEF skola looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Jekabpils II was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Roberts Ikaunieks (193-97) who scored 22 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Power forward Karlis Silins (202-97) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Four VEF skola players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Toms Kohanovs (191-96) who recorded 15 points and 5 assists and forward Artis Arnitis (195-96) added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. VEF skola have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 7-3 record having just -2 point less than leader Marupe. Loser Jekabpils II dropped to the seventh place with six games lost. VEF skola's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Riga to the arena .
