Very expected game when 11th ranked Al-Qazeres (2-7) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Gernika (6-3) 78-60 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gernika led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Al-Qazeres to just 6 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Al-Qazeres 41-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. American center Britany Miller (193-87, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and her fellow American import Bernice Mosby (186-84, college: Baylor, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Gernika players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Lady Comfort (188-86, college: Temple, agency: Josep and Nicolas) with 22 points and 9 rebounds and forward Veronica Sanchez (179-85) scored 15 points. Gernika moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Cadi La Seu. Al-Qazeres lost their third game in a row. Al-Qazeres at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the thirteenth position with seven games lost. Gernika will meet Universitario de Ferrol (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al-Qazeres will play against the league's leader Conquero and hope to secure a win.
