Regular Season Round 7: Taipans - Hawks 69-65

Date: November 22, 2014
Very expected game when 8th ranked Wollongong Hawks (1-11) were defeated on the road by third ranked Cairns Taipans (7-3) 69-65 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Wollongong Hawks won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a great evening for international guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) who led his team to a victory scoring 17 points and 5 rebounds. The former international power forward Alexander Loughton (206-83, college: ODU) helped adding 11 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Jahii Carson (178-92, college: Arizona St.) responded with 17 points and the former international center Luke Nevill (218-86, college: Utah) scored 8 points and 15 rebounds. Cairns Taipans moved-up to second place, which they share with Wildcats. Loser Wollongong Hawks stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Cairns Taipans will face Townsville Crocodiles (#7) in Wulguru in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Wollongong Hawks will play at home against Townsville Crocodiles and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
