The biggest surprise of round 8 was guest Castello's (7-1) road victory over second-ranked Caceres Basket (6-2) 78-74 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Caceres Basket. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Caceres Basket was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was American center Nick Washburn (208-91, college: Hillsdale, agency: Duran International) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Naturalized Argentinian forward Alejandro Bortolussi (202-89) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Washburn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. point guard Jose Antonio Marco (179-89) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 assists and forward Fernando Fernandez (198-89, college: Hannibal-LG, agency: Dynamics Global Management) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Caceres Basket players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Castello have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Caceres Basket at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They share it with Azpeitia. Castello are looking forward to face Azpeitia (#4) on the road in the next round. Caceres Basket will play against the league's leader Meridiano Alicante and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
