Seventh ranked La Rochelle won an overtime thriller against one of their biggest challengers JA Vichy by one point 75-74 on Saturday night. The hosts trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 18-17 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 1-point victory in overtime. La Rochelle made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. Strangely JA Vichy outrebounded La Rochelle 43-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. Guard Faycal Sahraoui (188-79) fired 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Jarryd Cole (204-88, college: Iowa) chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Four La Rochelle players scored in double figures. American swingman Jason Williams (198-83, college: UTEP) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import power forward Steffon Bradford (198-78, college: Nebraska) added 26 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. La Rochelle (5-3) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Blois and Chartres. JA Vichy at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. La Rochelle will face UB Chartres (#4) on the road in the next round. JA Vichy will play against Rueil and hope to win that game.
