Regular Season Round 18: Abejas - Huracanes 106-99

The most important game in the last round took place in Guanajuato between third ranked Huracanes (10-6) and tenth ranked Abejas (8-9) on Saturday night. Huracanes were defeated by Abejas in a tough game on the road 99-106. Huracanes trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 26-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 99-106 at the end of the game. Abejas made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. American-Jamaican forward McHugh Mattis (198-84, college: S.Florida) contributed with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) for the winners. Abejas' coach Armando Acosta used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nigerian-American power forward Suleiman Braimoh (203-89, college: Rice) replied with 30 points and 6 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and American swingman Cliff Tucker (198-89, college: Maryland) added 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Huracanes. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Abejas moved-up to eighth place. Huracanes at the other side keep the third position with six games lost. Abejas are looking forward to face Barreteros (#13) in Zacatecas in the next round where they are favorite. Huracanes will play against Jefes (#7) and are hoping to win this game.
