Regular Season Round 15: Prievidza - Handlova 87-66

Rather expected game when 5th ranked Handlova (7-8) was crushed on the road by third ranked Prievidza (11-3) 87-66 on Saturday. Prievidza forced 22 Handlova turnovers. The best player for the winners was Croatian forward Igor Maric (196-85) who scored 21 points and 6 rebounds. Croatian swingman Marko Batina (197-86) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Four Prievidza players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Preston Purifoy (196-92, college: UAB) who recorded 14 points and 9 rebounds and Croatian swingman Luka Drezga (196-87, agency: XL Basketball Agency) added 11 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Prievidza. They maintain third place with 11-3 record having just three points less than leader Inter Bratislava. Handlova lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Levice. Prievidza will meet bottom-ranked Nitra (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Handlova will play against SKP Banska Bystrica (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
