Regular Season Round 9: Gran Canaria - Mann Filter 85-65

There was a small surprise in Las Palmas where twelfth ranked Gran Canaria (3-6) smashed 9th ranked Mann Filter (3-6) 85-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gran Canaria. Mann Filter managed to win third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gran Canaria made 27-of-35 free shots (77.1 percent) during the game. Guard Iris Junio (185-99) stepped up and scored 19 points and 4 assists for the winners and American center Akila McDonald (193-91, college: S.Florida) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Five Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Gran Canaria's coach Fermin Bosa used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. The best for the losing side was forward Maria Arrojo (188-95, agency: Regeneracom Sports) with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and American forward Samarie Walker (185, college: Kentucky, agency: LBM Management) scored 9 points and 13 rebounds. Gran Canaria moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Mann Filter. Mann Filter lost their fourth game in a row. Gran Canaria will meet league's second-placed Argon Uni Girona on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mann Filter will play against Gipuzkoa UPV (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
