Regular Season Round 9: ToPo - HyPo 75-59

An interesting game for Torpan Pojat (7-2) which hosted in Helsinki 4th placed HyPo (5-4). Third ranked Torpan Pojat had an easy win 75-59. The game was mostly controlled by Torpan Pojat. HyPo managed to win fourth quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding HyPo to just 7 points in first quarter. Torpan Pojat held HyPo to an opponent 22.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.3 percent accuracy of the winners and made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. It was a good game for the former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. International swingman Heta Korpivaara (186-84, college: Seton Hall, agency: Regeneracom Sports) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners. Four Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. The former international center Taru Tuukkanen (192-77, college: Xavier, agency: Regeneracom Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and the former international power forward Laura Saarinen (187-92) added 8 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for HyPo. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Torpan Pojat have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with PeKa. Newly promoted HyPo keeps the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Huima. Torpan Pojat is looking forward to face ViVe (#7) in Vimpeli in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. HyPo will play on the road against Aanekosken in Aanekoski and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
