There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Dandenong Rangers (3-6) smashed at home 5th ranked Canberra Capitals (3-5) 92-72 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Dandenong Rangers. Canberra Capitals was better in second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Dandenong Rangers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Capitals' 42. Dandenong Rangers forced 19 Canberra Capitals turnovers. The former international forward Penny Taylor (185-81) scored 20 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Cappie Pondexter (175-83, college: Rutgers) chipped in 25 points during the contest. Four Dandenong Rangers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was international guard Stephanie Talbot (188-94) with 20 points and 9 rebounds and international center Abby Bishop (189-88) scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Dandenong Rangers moved-up to seventh place. Loser Canberra Capitals keep the fifth position with five games lost. Dandenong Rangers will have a break next round. Canberra Capitals will play at home against Adelaide Lightning (#8) and hope to win that game.
