Regular Season Round 9: San Pietro - Civitanova 56-47

Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Civitanova (3-5) was defeated on the road by first ranked San Pietro (7-1) 56-47 on Sunday. Civitanova trailed by 12 points at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 17-10 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 47-56 at the end of the game. San Pietro dominated on the defensive end, holding Civitanova to just 7 points in first quarter. They also forced 25 Civitanova turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Simona Ballardini (183-81) who scored 19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals. point guard Sofia Vespignani (170-96) chipped in 7 points. At the other side the best for losing team was Bosnian center Selma Delibasic (193-80) who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and center Licia Filippetti (185-86) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted San Pietro maintains first place in A2 with 7-1 record. Loser Civitanova keeps the fifth position with five games lost. San Pietro will face Castellammare (#8) in Stabia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Civitanova will play on the road against Roma SRB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
