Regular Season Round 16: Aomori Watts - Fukuoka Rizing 59-77

There was a minor upset when 5th ranked Aomori Watts (9-7) were defeated at home by eighth ranked Fukuoka Rizing (4-12) 77-59 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Fukuoka Rizing. Aomori Watts was better in fourth quarter 19-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fukuoka Rizing forced 21 Aomori Watts turnovers. Aomori Watts were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Josh Peppers (201-85, college: Cent.Florida, agency: Court Side) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import power forward Kirk Van Slyke (208-89, college: Arkansas St., agency: KMG Sports Management) who added 16 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) during the contest. Four Fukuoka Rizing players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Paul Williams (208-83, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: I.D.S. Law) responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and American-Panamanian forward Gyno Pomare (203-86, college: San Diego) scored 12 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Fukuoka Rizing maintains eighth position with 4-12 record, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Aomori Watts keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Fukuoka Rizing will face higher ranked Sendai 89ers (#4) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Aomori Watts will play against Shiga L-Stars and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
