Regular Season Round 8: Fuenlabrada - Opentach Pla 78-66

Bottom-ranked Opentach Pla (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 78-66 loss to eighth ranked Fuenlabrada (4-3) in Madrid. The game without a history. Fuenlabrada led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 63.6 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Fuenlabrada especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. The winners were led by Latvian power forward Rolands Smits (202-95) who scored that evening 30 points and British-Swedish center Nicholas Spires (210-94) supported him with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Even 14 points by American forward Ridge McKeither (198-88, college: Angelo St.) did not help to save the game for Opentach Pla. point guard Juan Riera (188-79) added 16 points for the guests. Opentach Pla's coach Toni Martorell rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Fuenlabrada have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Guadalajara. Newly promoted Opentach Pla still closes the standings with seven games lost. Fuenlabrada's next round opponent will be CB Tarragona 2017 (#9) on the road. Opentach Pla will play against Araberri (#13) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
