Regular Season Round 9: Matera - Tortona 55-77

There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Tortona (4-5) crushed on the road higher ranked Matera (4-5) 77-55 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Tortona. Matera was better in second period 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American forward Jaye Crockett (201-91, college: Texas Tech) who led his team to a victory with 20 points and 7 rebounds. point guard Alexander Simoncelli (188-86) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Tortona players scored in double figures. Tortona's coach Demis Cavina felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Swingman Daniele Bonessio (200-88) answered with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Marco Tagliabue (206-86) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Matera. Tortona have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Matera. Matera lost third consecutive game. Tortona will face higher ranked Naturhouse Ferrara (#6) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
