Regular Season Round 6: Qazvin - Petrochimi 73-75

The most exciting game of round 6 in the Superleague took place in Qazvin. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 6th ranked Qazvin (1-3) to top-ranked Petrochimi (5-0) 75-73 on Thursday evening. Petrochimi dominated on the defensive end, holding Qazvin to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. 29 personal fouls committed by Qazvin helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for international Hamed Afagh (193-83) who led his team to a victory with 24 points. International Behnam Yakhchali (197-95) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Petrochimi players scored in double figures. Forward Armen Allahverdi (197-82) replied with 8 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international center Mohammad Shahsavand (210-77) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Qazvin. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Petrochimi have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains second position with 5-0 record behind leader Mahram. Qazvin at the other side dropped to the seventh place with three games lost. Petrochimi are looking forward to face Naft Abadan (#4) at home in the next round. Qazvin will play against Samen in Mash'had and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
