Regular Season Round 7: Valur - Breidablik 73-71

The most exciting game of round 7 in the D1 took place in Reykjavik. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Breidablik (3-4) to sixth ranked Valur (3-3) 73-71 in the game for the fourth place. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning next two quarters and won the game by 2 points. Valur forced 22 Breidablik turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Valur made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Danero Thomas (193-86, college: Murray St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Illugi Audunsson (196-92) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. American point guard Nate Garth (188-89, college: UCSB) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and forward Palmi Geir Jonsson (196-93) added 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Breidablik. Four Breidablik players scored in double figures. Valur moved-up to fourth place. Breidablik at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. They share it with IA. Valur are looking forward to face league's leader Hamar on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Breidablik will play against IA (#6) in Akranes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
