Regular Season Round 17: Niigata Albirex - Shimane SM 76-71

Everything went according to plan when sixth ranked Niigata Albirex (9-8) won against at home 10th ranked Shimane Magic (1-16) 76-71 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Shimane Magic won third quarter 28-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Niigata Albirex won last quarter 16-12. The best player for the winners was American guard Russell Carter (196-85, college: Notre Dame) who scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Kimitake Sato (186-84) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Niigata Albirex's coach Fujitaka Hiraoka used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Bingo Merriex (206-80, college: TCU) produced 16 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import forward Isiah Brown (203-89, college: E.Tenn.St.) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Five Niigata Albirex and four Shimane Magic players scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex maintains sixth place with 9-8 record. Shimane Magic lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 16 games lost. Niigata Albirex will face again Shimane Magic (#10) at home in the next round.
