Regular Season Round 8: Chanson V-M - Niigata R. 56-44

There was no surprise in Shizuoka where 9th ranked Niigata R. (1-6) was defeated by third ranked Chanson V-M (6-2) 56-44. It looked good early as Niigata R. took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Chanson V-M had a 12-8 second period charge getting the lead and Niigata R. was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 44-56. Chanson V-M dominated on the defensive end, holding Niigata R. to just 6 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Niigata R. 40-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by the former international power forward Yuka Watanabe (181-81) who scored that evening 15 points and 5 rebounds and international forward Sanae Motokawa (175-92) supported her with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Even 17 points by the former international guard Hiromi Iwamura (168-81) did not help to save the game for Niigata R.. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) added 10 points and 4 assists for the guests. Chanson V-M have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-2 record having just -1 point less than leader Denso Iris. Niigata R. lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with six games lost. Chanson V-M's next round opponent will be Mitsubishi K. (#6) in Nagoya. Niigata R. will play at home against the league's second-placed Fujitsu RW and hope to win that game.
