Bottom-ranked Belfast Star managed to get the third consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they won against fourth-ranked Neptune Cork 101-89. And what about a third win in a row after ...six consecutive loses. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Neptune Cork. Belfast Star dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Neptune Cork's 46. Belfast Star forced 19 Neptune Cork turnovers. Strangely Neptune Cork outrebounded Belfast Star 52-40 including a 39-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Ricky Taylor (195-89, college: Chattanooga) who scored 43 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward Michael McKillop (194-85, college: Davidson) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Belfast Star's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Roy Downey (191, college: Lindsey Wilson) who recorded 29 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and American swingman Nigel Byam (201-87, college: St.Francis, NY) added 16 points and 16 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Belfast Star have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to seventh place. Loser Neptune Cork keeps the fourth position with four games lost. They share it with Templeogue. Belfast Star will meet at home higher ranked Swords Thunder (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Neptune Cork will play against UCD Marian and hope to secure a win.
