Regular Season Round 9: Andorra - Valencia 64-65

A very close game took place in Andorra between Valencia Basket and Andorra. Ninth ranked Valencia Basket (5-4) got a very close victory on the road over 13th ranked Andorra (3-6). Valencia Basket managed to escape with a 1-point win 65-64 on Sunday evening. Andorra cut a 14-point halftime deficit to one at the end of the game. American forward Luke Harangody (201-88, college: Notre Dame) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and the former international guard Rafael Martinez (191-82) chipped in 18 points. Four Valencia Basket players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Cape Verdean-Portuguese Joao Gomes (201-85) with 12 points and 8 rebounds and swingman David Navarro (192-83) scored 14 points. Andorra's coach Joan Penarroya rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Valencia Basket moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Andorra keeps the thirteenth position with six games lost. Valencia Basket will meet at home Laboral Kutxa (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Andorra will play against Baloncesto Fuenlabrada in Madrid and hope to secure a win.
