There was no surprise when 6th ranked Townsville Crocodiles (4-7) were defeated on the road by third ranked Cairns Taipans (8-4) 91-82 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 47-34 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Townsville Crocodiles were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward Cameron Tragardh (209-83, college: ORU) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds. The former international power forward Alexander Loughton (206-83, college: ODU) chipped in 21 points. Five Cairns Taipans players scored in double figures. The former international forward Todd Blanchfield (200-91) produced 24 points and American center Mickell Gladness (211-86) added 12 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Cairns Taipans maintains third position with 8-4 record behind leader Breakers. Loser Townsville Crocodiles keep the sixth place with seven games lost. Cairns Taipans will face Adelaide 36ers (#7) in Findon in the next round.
