Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Gunma (2-14) lost at home to second ranked Akita Happinets (14-4) 86-70 on Sunday. The game without a history. Akita Happinets led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Americans were the main players on the court also this time. It was a good game for swingman Richard Roby (198-85) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Tyran Walker (213-89, college: Wake Forest) contributed with 17 points and 9 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Forward Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech) replied with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Melvin Ely (208-78, college: Fresno St.) added 13 points and 8 rebounds (perfect from the field making all six shots) in the effort for Gunma. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Akita Happinets maintains second position with 14-4 record having just three points less than leader Kyoto Hannar., which they share with Toyama Grouses. Loser Gunma keeps the eleventh place with 14 games lost. Akita Happinets will face Shiga L-Stars (#4) at home in the next round. Gunma will play against Yokohama BC (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
