There was no surprise when 8th ranked Castellammare (2-7) lost on the road to first ranked San Pietro (8-1) 64-56 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Castellammare won third quarter 10-8. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. San Pietro dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Castellammare's 16. It was a very good performance for Croatian power forward Ivona Matic (188-86, agency: IPSA) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 rebounds. The former international forward Simona Ballardini (183-81) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. San Pietro's coach Paolo Seletti used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. point guard Raffaella Potolicchio (169-90) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Bulgarian power forward Diana Voynova (194-88, college: Duquesne) added 10 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Castellammare. Newly promoted San Pietro maintains first position in A2 with 8-1 record. Castellammare at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eighth place with seven games lost. San Pietro will face Irpino (#3) in Ariano Irpino in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Castellammare will play at home against Marinella (#4) and hope to win that game.
