Regular Season Round 9: Hapoel J-M - Ironi Nes-Ziona 88-78

An interesting game for Hapoel Jerusalem (9-0) which hosted in Jerusalem 4th placed Ironi Nes-Ziona (6-3). Leader Hapoel Jerusalem managed to get a 10-point victory 88-78. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Jerusalem. Ironi Nes-Ziona was better in fourth quarter 17-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Jerusalem players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. American point guard Derwin Kitchen (194-86, college: Florida St.) stepped up and scored 9 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and the former international Yotam Halperin (195-84) chipped in 15 points and 6 assists. Four Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Craig Smith (201-83, college: Boston Coll.) with 21 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import guard Preston Knowles (187-89, college: Louisville) scored 15 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hapoel Jerusalem have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. Ironi Nes-Ziona at the other side dropped to the third position with three games lost. They share it with Maccabi Rishon. Hapoel Jerusalem will play against Hapoel Holon (#5) on the road in the next round. Ironi Nes-Ziona will play against Hapoel Tel-Aviv and hopes to get back on the winning track.
