Regular Season Round 11: Pyrinto - PeKa 88-84

The game between third ranked Peli-Karhut (7-3) and eighth ranked Pyrinto (4-7) was the most important one in the last round on Sunday night. Peli-Karhut was defeated by Pyrinto in a tough game in Tampere 84-88. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 36-25. But Peli-Karhut won third quarter 18-11. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pyrinto forced 20 Peli-Karhut turnovers. Strangely Peli-Karhut outrebounded Pyrinto 41-25 including a 15-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Jessica Schroll (180-91, college: Cent.Michigan) who scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). Veera Valimaa (182-96) chipped in 20 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Pyrinto's coach Ilpo Rantanen used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American forward Keira Peak (175-91, college: Arkansas, agency: Two Points) produced 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Natasha Thames (183-91, college: Temple) added 17 points and 12 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pyrinto moved-up to seventh place. Peli-Karhut at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Pyrinto are looking forward to face bottom-ranked TuRi (#10) in Turku in the next round. Peli-Karhut will play on the road against the league's second-placed Torpan Pojat (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
