Regular Season Round 9: Denso Iris - JX-Eneos S. 49-57

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Denso Iris (6-2) in Kariya on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked JX-Eneos S. (6-2) 57-49. The guests trailed by 6 points after three quarters before their 26-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. JX-Eneos S. dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Denso Iris' 22. They outrebounded Denso Iris 44-28 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for the former international forward Yuka Mamiya (185-90) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. International forward Yuki Miyazawa (181-93, college: Queens, NY) contributed with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Guard Yasuko Itou (160-90) answered with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international power forward Maki Takada (183-89) added 8 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Denso Iris. JX-Eneos S. have a solid series of four victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Toyota A. and Denso Iris. JX-Eneos S. is looking forward to face league's second-placed Chanson V-M in Shizuoka in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Denso Iris will play at home against the league's leader Fujitsu RW and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
