Regular Season Round 7: Petrochimi - Naft Abadan 75-49

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Petrochimi as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Petrochimi smashed 4th placed Naft Abadan in Bandar Imam 75-49. The game was mostly controlled by Petrochimi. Naft Abadan managed to win third quarter 19-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Petrochimi forced 22 Naft Abadan turnovers. It was a great evening for the former international Mohammad Reza Akbari Bisheh (196-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 15 points and 5 rebounds. International Hamed Afagh (193-83) helped adding 15 points and 4 steals. At the losing side international center Asghar Kardoust (212-86) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks and the former international Yonas Lalehzadeh (197-89, college: Cal-Irvine) scored 9 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Petrochimi (6-0) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Naft Abadan lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Naft Abadan will play next round against Samen trying to get back on the winning streak. Petrochimi will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Azad in Tehran.
