Regular Season Round 12: PeKa - Catz 92-60

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Catz Lappeenranta (11-1) in Kotka on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by second ranked Peli-Karhut (9-3) 92-60. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The game was mostly controlled by Peli-Karhut. Catz Lappeenranta managed to win fourth quarter 20-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Peli-Karhut forced 25 Catz Lappeenranta turnovers. Strangely Catz Lappeenranta outrebounded Peli-Karhut 46-33 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American forward Keira Peak (175-91, college: Arkansas, agency: Two Points) who led her team to a victory with 19 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import forward Natasha Thames (183-91, college: Temple) contributed with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. Peli-Karhut's coach Seppo Kurki felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Chandrea Jones (175-87, college: Syracuse, agency: LBM Management) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Russian forward Elena Reshetko (184-86) added 12 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Catz Lappeenranta. Peli-Karhut maintains second position with 9-3 record having just two points less than leader Catz. Defending champion Catz Lappeenranta still keeps top place with one game lost. Peli-Karhut are looking forward to face Aanekosken (#4) in Aanekoski in the next round. Catz Lappeenranta will play on the road against Tapiolan Honka and is hoping to win this game.
