Regular Season Round 9: IR - Haukar 82-83

Important game to mention about took place in Reykjavik. Fourth ranked Haukar (6-3) saved a 1-point victory on the road edging 9th ranked IR (2-7) 83-82 on Thursday evening. Guest team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But IR won third quarter 25-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Haukar forced 19 IR turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a good game for American forward Alex Francis (198-91, college: Bryant, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Kari Jonsson (190-97) contributed with 25 points for the winners. American-Jamaican forward Trey Hampton (203-87, college: Georgia St.) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (185-94, college: Flagler) added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for IR. Haukar moved-up to third place. IR at the other side keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. They share it with Fjolnir and Grindavik. Haukar will play against league's second-placed Tindastoll in Sauoarkrokur in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. IR will play on the road against Skallagrimur (#12) in Borgarnes and hopes to get back on the winning track.
