Round 8 in Superleague means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Tehran where host Azad (6-1) beat league's leader Petrochimi (6-1) 83-66 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Petrochimi. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The game without a history. Azad led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 25-of-31 free shots (80.6 percent) during the game. Azad had a 29-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Petrochimi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Hamed Hosseinzadeh (187-87) who scored 17 points and 5 assists. International power forward Rouzbeh Arghavan (214-88) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. International center Meisam Mirzaei (210-92) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds and international forward Mohammad Samad Nikkhah Bahrami (199-83) added 17 points (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) respectively for the guests. Five Azad and four Petrochimi players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Azad have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Petrochimi and Mahram. Petrochimi will play next round against strong Mahram trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Azad will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Samen in Mash'had.
