Very important is a home loss of second ranked Shanghai Octopus (10-2) against seventh ranked Bayi Kylin (5-7) on Thursday night. Host Shanghai Octopus were defeated by Bayi Kylin in Shanghai 83-72. The game was mostly controlled by Bayi Kylin. Shanghai Octopus managed to win fourth quarter 27-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bayi Kylin made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. It was a great shooting night for Bayi Kylin especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 64.3 percentage. The winners were led by the former international forward Lu Wen (188-90) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and forward Xue Wang (185-93) supported her with 20 points. Five Bayi Kylin players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 21 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks by American center Sylvia Fowles (198-85, college: LSU) did not help to save the game for Shanghai Octopus. International forward Jing Huang (183-85) added 23 points and 4 steals for lost side. Bayi Kylin maintains seventh position in Places 1-8 with 5-7 record. Loser Shanghai Octopus keep the second place with two games lost. Bayi Kylin will meet at home higher ranked Guangdong Dolphins (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Shanghai Octopus will play against Shenyang Golden Lions in Dandong and hope to secure a win.
