Regular Season Round 19: Pioneros - Gigantes 98-83

Very expected game in Cancun where 12th ranked Gigantes (5-12) were defeated by sixth ranked Pioneros (10-5) 98-83 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Pioneros. Gigantes managed to win third quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Pioneros shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 56.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 33 assists comparing to just 19 passes made by Gigantes' players. The former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St.) fired 26 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international swingman Romel Beck (201-82, college: UNLV, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. Naturalized American guard Justin Avalos (191-87, college: Western St.) produced 20 points and 7 rebounds and American-Haitian forward James Anacreon (201-90, college: Valdosta St.) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Pioneros moved-up to third place, which they share with Halc.Xalapa. Gigantes lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Pioneros will again meet at home Gigantes (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gigantes will have a break next round.
