Regular Season Round 9: Taipans - 36ers 85-80
Date: December 6, 2014
Very expected game when 7th ranked Adelaide 36ers (3-9) lost on the road to third ranked Cairns Taipans (9-4) 85-80. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Adelaide 36ers won third quarter 22-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Cairns Taipans won last quarter 24-20. American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Scottie Wilbekin (188-92, college: Florida) chipped in 13 points and 8 assists. Cairns Taipans' coach Aaron Fearne allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American point guard Jamar Wilson (185-84, college: Albany) with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international center Luke Schenscher (216-82, college: Georgia Tech, agency: Priority Sports) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Five Cairns Taipans and four Adelaide 36ers players scored in double figures. Cairns Taipans moved-up to second place, which they share with Breakers. Adelaide 36ers lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Cairns Taipans will play against Townsville Crocodiles (#6) in Wulguru in the next round.
