Regular Season Round 9: Kings - Breakers 82-69

NBL round 9 caused change at the leadership position. Fourth defeat of league's leader New Zealand Breakers (9-4) against fifth ranked Kings (6-5) 82-69 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Kings made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Kings outrebounded New Zealand Breakers 48-37 including 18 on the offensive glass. It was a good game for American swingman Josh Childress (203-83, college: Stanford) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 16 rebounds and 6 assists. International swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: GRU) contributed with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) answered with 9 points and 5 assists and Nigerian-American power forward Ekenechukwu Ibekwe (206-85, college: Maryland) added 15 points and 5 blocks in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Kings maintains fifth place with 6-5 record. New Zealand Breakers at the other side dropped to the second position with four games lost. They share it with Taipans. They were replaced at the leadership position by Wildcats. New Zealand Breakers will play next round against league's leader Perth Wildcats trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Kings will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Wollongong Hawks in Gwynneville.
