Regular Season Round 11: Gran Canaria - Gipuzkoa UPV 56-77

Rather expected game in Las Palmas where 10th ranked Gran Canaria (3-8) was crushed by eighth ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (5-6) 77-56 on Saturday. The game without a history. Gipuzkoa UPV led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Strangely Gran Canaria outrebounded Gipuzkoa UPV 46-31 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gran Canaria was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Senegalese power forward Oumoul Sarr (185-84) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. Point guard Maria Gomez (170-82) helped adding 12 points and 11 assists. Five Gipuzkoa UPV players scored in double figures. American guard Robyn Parks (183-92, college: VCU) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and forward Vega Gimeno (185-91, college: Robert Morris, agency: Josep and Nicolas) scored 13 points and 8 rebounds. Gran Canaria's coach Fermin Bosa gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the third consecutive win for Gipuzkoa UPV. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Zamarat. Loser Gran Canaria keeps the tenth position with eight games lost. Gipuzkoa UPV will face Zamarat (#8) in Zamora in the next round. Gran Canaria will play at home against Cadi La Seu and hope to win that game.
