Regular Season Round 20: Okinawa GK - Fukushima 86-73

There was no surprise when 8th ranked Fukushima (6-14) was defeated on the road by second ranked Okinawa GK (16-2) 86-73 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Okinawa GK. Fukushima was better in fourth quarter 22-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. Okinawa GK outrebounded Fukushima 46-35 including a 37-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The game was also dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was Anthony McHenry (202-83, college: Georgia Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Draelon Burns (194-85, college: De Paul) chipped in 19 points. Okinawa GK's coach Tsutomu Isa allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Terrance Shannon (203-90, college: VCU) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds and guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Four Okinawa GK and five Fukushima players scored in double figures. Okinawa GK have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-2 record having five points less than leader Kyoto Hannar. Newly promoted Fukushima keeps the eighth place with 14 games lost. Okinawa GK will face league's leader Iwate Big Bulls on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fukushima will play against Niigata Albirex (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
