Regular Season Round 20: Shinshu BW - Toyama Grouses 99-90

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Toyama Grouses (14-6) against seventh ranked Shinshu BW (7-9) on Sunday night. Visiting Toyama Grouses were defeated by Shinshu BW in a tough game in Nagano 90-99. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Toyama Grouses won third quarter 31-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Toyama Grouses outrebounded Shinshu BW 44-27 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Toyama Grouses were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 29 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import forward Patrick Sanders (198-85, college: Cal-Irvine) contributed with 32 points and 5 assists (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!) for the winners. American center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Crosse) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 14 rebounds and guard Mito Takeshi (184-85) added 26 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists in the effort for Toyama Grouses. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shinshu BW maintains seventh position with 7-9 record. Toyama Grouses at the other side keep the third place with six games lost. They share the position with Sendai 89ers. Shinshu BW will play against higher ranked Osaka Evessa (#4) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Toyama Grouses will play against the league's leader Kyoto Hannar. and will have a slim chance for a victory.
