Regular Season Round 20: Sendai 89ers - Bambitious Nara 76-75

Eighth-ranked Bambitious Nara (5-11) made lots of trouble for fourth ranked Sendai 89ers (14-6) on Sunday. Sendai 89ers managed to secure only one-point victory 76-75. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-16. But Bambitious Nara won second period 18-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sendai 89ers dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Bambitious Nara's 32. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Kejuan Johnson (193-85, college: Long Beach St., agency: KMG Sports Management) who scored 19 points and 5 assists. Center Jeral Davis (216-84) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Chehales Tapscott (195-90, college: Portland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points and 17 rebounds and guard Andre Murray (188-87, college: Portland St.) added 18 points respectively for the guests. Bambitious Nara's coach Ryutaro Onodera rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sendai 89ers have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Toyama Grouses. Bambitious Nara at the other side keeps the eighth position with 11 games lost. Sendai 89ers is looking forward to face Saitama Broncos (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bambitious Nara will play against Oita Heat Devils (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
