There was no surprise in Sorocabana where 14th ranked Liga Sorocaba (2-7) was defeated by tenth ranked Pinheiros (5-3) 96-88 on Tuesday. Pinheiros made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 17 long-distance shots on high 56.7 percentage. American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) stepped up and scored 24 points for the winners and his fellow American import point guard Joe Smith (193-77, college: Al.-Huntsville) chipped in 14 points and 8 assists. Pinheiros' coach Marcel de Souza allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was swingman Gaucho Zilmer (197-86) with 22 points and 5 assists and guard Guilherme Schneider (193-86) scored 21 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pinheiros moved-up to sixth place. Loser Liga Sorocaba dropped to the fifteenth position with seven games lost. Pinheiros' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paolo Paulistano.
